Twinkles came into the SNAFU Rescue via a private party surrender. To know fault of her own, her family could no longer properly care for her and wanted her to be placed in a loving home to be spoiled and loved!
Twinkles came into rescue two weeks before giving birth to a litter of four puppies. She was an excellent, attentive momma and all four puppies were healthy and have been since adopted. Twinkles is playful, active, cautious around new people, a complete snuggle bug who at times resembles a jumping bunny! You can often find Twinkles searching the entire house looking for every soft toy she can possibly play with. She will often initiate play with her foster siblings but is a-okay playing all by herself. Twinkles has yet to find a soft toy that she doesn’t love. When she isn’t burning off some calories wrestling her plush squeaky toys or chomping on a benebone, you can find her looking for a soft place to lay her head. She truly is content grabbing a snooze all by herself but she would much rather find her humans to share some snuggle time with. This little girl is quite the cuddler and prefers to be under the covers! After a much desired nap, Momma (as she is affectionately referred to in her foster home) will look for her humans to follow them all around the house in hopes they will offer her some yummy snacks. She will scale things you think she shouldn’t be able to...all for the cookie! Momma is VERY food motivated and if she sees food on the table she fancies there is NO stopping her from attempting to get to it. Momma can be a bit protective of her surroundings, reactive when meeting new dogs and humans and will offer a bark to let them know she is watching. She currently lives with several foster furry siblings and generally gets along with them however she thinks she is the boss (alpha momma) and will try to rule in some situations. Twinkles is experiencing a big transition and will need firm leadership, consistent correction to help her learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners and to know what is expected of her in her adoptive home. She is extremely intelligent and after proper slow introductions Momma will let her guard down, warm up to new surroundings and other dogs and humans. Because of her alpha behavior, her unwillingness to back down from an altercation (Momma and the resident dog got into a fight resulting in her accidentally biting her foster mom because she put her arm between two fighting dogs) her foster family believes she would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle, children 8 years or older, a home with a submissive dog or equally as well as an only dog. As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions (this is 100% required for Momma) between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both she and they are kept safe.
Twinkles is 100% potty trained (but may occasionally mark in the home). As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to offer her a consistent schedule to continue her potty training success. Twinkles is 100% crate trained and has not had any accidents in her crate. She does sleep quietly in her crate when her foster family happens to leave the home. We do think Twinkles would love to share a bed with her adoptive family! She prefers to sleep quietly tucked under the covers. Twinkles loves the softer things in life and adores the plush nature of her crate and blanket but a human bed would be ideal for this adorable little snuggler! For her safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule is kept for her.
Medically, Twinkles seems to be in great health! She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Twinkles came into rescue not using her back leg. She had a high grade luxating patella and has since had MPL surgery to repair it by an orthopedic surgeon. She is still rehabbing and and the specialist believes she will have 85% use of her leg.
Twinkles would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due but if her adoptive family is willing to continue leash training, a home without a fenced yard would be okay as long as she is taken out using a leash and harness. Twinkles does great with stairs and we feel she would be an okay apartment/shared walled dog knowing that she barks at strangers and strange dogs. For this reason (barking & uncertainty around new people), we don’t think Twinkles would be a good office partner. She would rather happily sleep the day away in her crate with a comfy blanket as long as her people can arrange a mid-day potty break for her. Ultimately Momma is looking for a loving family to call her very own. She is a very happy, endearing, loyal, loving and playful dog.
If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Twinkles, please submit an adoption application for her today!!
NOTE: Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3-4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application. We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. :-) Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another. We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not. :-)
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don't feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue. :-)
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog's foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter can not keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
