Tugg Boat came into SNAFU Rescue after being purchased at a commercial breeder dog auction. Thanks to the help of our generous donors we were able to secure 19 dogs, now nicknamed #ValentineOne9.
Tugg Boat is settling into pet life wonderfully. Tugg Boat seems to love everyone he meets including kids, anyone walking by and he is very curious about the kitties in his foster home. Tugg Boat wants to be his people’s best friend and will follow you everywhere you go. His favorite thing is to be sitting beside you or having you give him lots of pets! He has done very well going for car rides as well. He enjoys playing with the resident dog in his foster home, chewing toys and NoHide bones, napping, and dinner time! As with all of our dogs, we always recommend slow introductions when bringing a new dog to the household. Besides the resident dog, he is also living with 2 cats, and while he has been curious about the cats he is respectful of their space. He really loves being around humans of all ages and is gentle when playing.
Tugg Boat has done very well with his potty training. He does not have accidents in the house or his crate. A regular, consistent schedule will help continue his potty training success in his new home. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able and willing to continue potty training, change can be scary and accidents may happen. Tugg Boat has done very well with crate training. He sleeps quietly in his kennel during the night or when his foster family is not home. Since he does well in his crate, we recommend that he keep a similar crating schedule when his humans are away from the home so he is safe and secure. He is still a curious dog and pet life is new, so he is still learning what is expected of him inside the home and does not know danger.
Medically, Tugg Boat seems to be in great health! He has been recently neutered, had a dental, updated on vaccinations, dewormings and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!
Tugg Boat would do well in almost any type of home. He has been very curious about the outside and we think he would love a house with a fenced yard to roam around in. However, with daily walks and access to a dog park he could also live in a home with no yard. He is an AMAZING companion dog and loves to be with his people. He loves to meet new people and seems to do well with other dogs. He’s completely happy sleeping the day away in his kennel as long as his family can arrange for a mid-day potty break!
Tugg Boat is an amazingly handsome boy, anybody would be lucky to have him. If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Tugg Boat, please submit an adoption application for him today!
NOTE: Please note that it will likely be at least a 3-4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application. We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at least a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another. We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don't feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog's foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter can not keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
