NOTE: Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3-4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.  We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog.  After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc.  :-)  Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.  We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete.   That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not. :-)

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don't feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter.  In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue. :-)

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog's foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply!  While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter can not keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.

Ricco came into SNAFU Rescue via a commercial breeder release.  His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home to live the rest of his life as a cherished pet.

Ricco has a quiet, timid, laidback and reserved disposition.  He often is nervous in new situations but is able to overcome his timidness with trust.  Ricco is social around trusted humans when he chooses.  He is a friendly, happy boy who loves extra cuddles and to be snuggled.  He enjoys roaming around the quiet house and exploring every inch of his surroundings. Ricco’s favorite pastimes include chewing on coat zippers that are hanging from a chair, picking up and nibbling on mulch in the yard, occasionally selecting a plush toy to play with and (HIS VERY FAVORITE) taking a nap on the comfy couch.  He is adorably awkward as he tries to settle in for some snuggles (he really doesn’t like being picked up) but that doesn't stop him!  Although he doesn't prefer to be away from his home, Ricco will appease his foster family by participating in a short walk (reluctantly). He is quite the stubborn one! His leash skills need some work and patience!  After attempting a short walk (or short drag followed by convincing him to move), Ricco will search for a warm place to sit in front of and snuggle up in any comfy spot he can find for a much needed nap.  Did we mention napping and snuggles again?!?!  Ricco will always look for his people to partake in a cuddle session during his snooze.  He truly just wants to be with his people all the time as he finds comfort in their presence if they happen to be in the same room as he is.  Ricco isn’t one to follow around his humans… he takes a slower approach to life and is completely comfortable hanging out by himself if needed as long as his humans can be heard in the adjacent  room.  Ricco’s overall gentle disposition allows him to get along with his furry foster siblings as he really doesn’t pay them much mind. He has a very kind temperament which is favorable when he is around other dogs (as long as they aren’t taking his share of the snacks!).  He has yet to meet any human that he hasn’t liked but is awfully timid at first.  After the shyness wears off and the humans gain his trust,  Ricco is flirting his way into their hearts.  Because of his lighthearted disposition, we feel Ricco will do perfectly well with other slow-paced, balanced dogs and with dog savvy, gentle, respectful children 12 years or older.  Ricco stresses out around loud noises so a home without louder young children is required.  We also feel Ricco would thrive in an only dog household as he enjoys quieter days with his humans.  Ricco needs positive leadership to learn what is expected in the home and learn proper dog manners.  Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household is a must and he should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Ricco is nearly fully potty trained!  As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be patient and willing to continue working on his potty training success as he acclimates to his new home and surroundings.  He is 100% crate trained and does not have any accidents while crated but does need a little help into his crate.  He sleeps quietly when his foster family happens to be away from the home as he has a plush warm blanket to provide him comfort.  Ricco does sleep in his crate in the evening but would much rather share a bed and offer many cuddles with his new family!

Medically, Ricco is in great health!  He has been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, had a dental, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, nares widened and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Ricco does have a hypo-trachea that does not allow him to ever wear a collar; a harness is always recommended for him. Ricco has very few teeth left and requires a small sized kibble or softer food to help him be able to enjoy meal times.

Ricco would do great in any type of home that has very few stairs.  Although he can do a few stairs, his short little legs prohibit him from conquering larger staircases.  A home with a fully fenced yard will be preferred for Ricco as he does like to take his time doing his outside business, still mastering potty training and working on proper leash skills.  A multiple floor apartment style dwelling would be okay for Ricco as long as it is on the1st floor (with little to no stairs) with an adjacent fenced in area.  Ricco does love to sniff and explore outside and is happy to do so in the yard.  Since Ricco is a quiet, chill little boy, we think he would love to go to work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office.  Ricco would really love If his family had a work from home or stay at home parent as he enjoys the company of his humans.  If his adoptive family is not not able to take him to work or stay at home with him, no problem at all - he's completely happy sleeping the day away as long as he has a warm area, a soft blanket and his people can arrange for a mid-day potty break for him!  Ricco is a little snuggle bug looking for a quieter home that can keep him warm with some comfy sweaters and lots of love and attention. He will repay all the love with his unwavering loyalty!
If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Ricco, please submit an adoption application for him.
