Princess came into SNAFU Rescue after being purchased privately from a commercial breeder to prevent her being sold at auction.
Princess is a very very sweet girl whose favorite past times are napping, soaking up human affection, playing with the resident dogs in her foster home, and playing with her toys! Princess was a little timid at first coming into her foster home and adjusting to life BUT she has made huge progress and seems to be coming out of her shell, exploring her foster home and playing more and more every day with the resident English Bulldogs and Shih Tzu. Princess gets along with the other dogs in her foster home and seems to enjoy their company. She loves to play with them and hasn't shown aggression during play or around toys. She is currently living in a home with children and seems to love them! She can be pushy when she wants their attention so she would do best in a home with dog savvy children 5 and older because of her strength when insisting on their attention. She does not like vacuums. She runs toward the loud noise and barks. While she is pretty outgoing, her new family will need to understand that Princess will need more work on socializing in unfamiliar environments as well as someone who will be patient with her if she is scared or unsure. She will need a family who can provide consistency and work with her on building confidence.
Princess is currently still working on potty training. While she has been doing a great job with going potty outside, and has made progress as time passes, she is not 100% yet, but very close! As with all dogs, a regular and consistent schedule will help with her continued potty training in her new home. Princess is doing very well learning how to signal her humans to alert them that she has to go but they must act fast because Princess won't wait long! Even if she doesn't signal, once she is taken outside she will go. Patience, persistence and consistency MUST be given to her and will be the best tools for helping her succeed in her forever home. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training. Princess has also done great with crate training with a wire crate and sleeps quietly in her kennel during the night or when her foster family happens to leave the home. For her safety, we recommend that she keep a similar crating schedule when her humans are away from the home and/or she is left unsupervised so she is safe and secure. She does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of her inside the home.
Medically, Princess seems to be in great health! Prior to coming to the rescue she had some sort of previous injury or possibly a severe ulcer in her left eye. We are not sure if it treatment was attempted on it or not, but regardless, this previous injury caused her to go blind in that eye (her left eye). Her blind eye does not currently cause her any pain nor does it seem to slow her down in any way. She will need to have lubricating drops added to her eye daily to prevent dryness and to help prevent future ulcers resulting from dry eye. We recommend Puralube which can be found on amazon for a very reasonable price (approx $20 for 3 tubes and/or a little under $7 per tube). Princess has been spayed, HW Tested, had a dental, has been updated on Vaccinations/deworming’s, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!
Princess would do well in almost any type of home but since he is still working on potty training, a house with a fenced yard will be preferred for her (opposed to a multiple floor apartment style dwelling with no yard). She has recently been introduced to stairs and is going great, but is still learning them. Princess will need her new family to provide her a mid-day potty if they work away from the home. As long as she has her mid-day potty break and a comfy crate with a great bone to chew on she is content snoozing while waiting for her family to arrive home from work!
If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Princess, please submit an adoption application for her today!!!
NOTE: Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 2-3 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application. We typically give a week for a "grace period" for new applications to come in on any newly available dog in order to give everyone a fair chance to submit an application. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. :-) Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another. We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not. :-)
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don't feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue. :-)
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog's foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed. If, for any reason, and adopter can not keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
Princess' applications are currently under review.
We are no longer accepting new applications for her at this time.
