We are no longer accepting applications for Kirby!

NOTE: Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3-4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.  We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog.  After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc.  :-)  Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.  We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete.   That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not. :-)

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don't feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter.  In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue. :-)

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog's foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply!  While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter can not keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.

Kirby found his way into SNAFU via a private party. His family wanted him to be placed in a loving pet home to be spoiled, loved, and live out his life as a cherished pet!

Kirby is an active, playful, social, outgoing, busy, energetic, and friendly Frenchie boy.  He is all gas and no brakes!  He rarely takes a moment to trot away from his toys, following his humans or trying to instigate the resident furry crew.  He enjoys romping around the house and exploring every inch of his surroundings.  Kirby will occasionally rest for a quick nap in front of the heat of the fireplace or a warm sunny spot but will pop up the minute he thinks someone (or another dog) will engage him in play. Kirby loves playtime… perhaps that statement is the understatement of 2023.  He has yet to meet a ball that he doesn’t love and will gather quite the collection!  When it is cleaning day in his home you can find a dozen or so of his balls under the couch and it is Christmas all over again!  Even though his adoration for bouncy balls is real, he will not discriminate against any stuffy toys or chew toys.  He will squeak away with his favorite toy and even sneak it outside during a potty break!  Kirby MUST be monitored with softer toys as he will seek to destroy them into little pieces and show you his accomplishments!  Kirby is very bone responsible… he will properly chew them to the smallest nub without any issues.  Kirby does enjoy walks however his leash and social skills need some improvement.  He has some reactivity to strangers and needs corrective measures during those situations. Kirby will instinctively protect his trusted humans and is very weary/protective of his home and react to strangers coming into his space or while on a walk.  All of his stranger danger disappears when he is at the dog park.  Kirby does not exhibit any issues with unknown people when given the opportunity to run and play at an off leash/fenced dog park.  Given the proper instruction and offered positive reinforcement, Kirby is very willing to warm up and won’t show any further disdain (he reacts by jumping, lunging, and nipping). .  Kirby loves all dogs of all kinds, sizes, and gender.   Kirby is working on his social skills and manners as he is unable to pick up on the social cues of other dogs.  He will continue to egg on any dog that he wants to get to play with.  He needs a firm leader, and consistent correction to guide him to learn proper dog manners.  His overall kind disposition allows him to get along with all humans, big or small.  He gets VERY protective (in a good way) when the very young neighbor children cry and he will sprint out to check on them. He has been exposed to teenage children and gets great joy from them.  He was reported to LOVE the children in his previous home (as young as 3) and we feel he would do well with children of all ages.  When children are around, that means more little hands to pay him unlimited amounts of pets, scratchies, and attention.  Kirby has stranger danger and although he does well with kids of any age, a home with a revolving door of people may not be the best suited if smaller children are around.  He has a very playful temperament which is favorable when he is around other playful dogs however since Kirby is still learning social cues a more passive, balanced, a playful dog would be better suited for Kirby.  Slow introductions to other dogs (is a must) and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Kirby is 90% housebroken!!  Yay Kirby, you’re almost there!  As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be patient and willing to establish a consistent outside schedule so he acclimates to his new home and surroundings. Kirby seeks encouragement when doing his business and likes his humans to hang out with him.  He is 100% crate trained.  Kirby will also do well in an x-pen for shorter periods but is not recommended for longer periods as he will use the extra space to have accidents.  He sleeps quietly and comfortably in his crate at night but has tried to sneak into his foster family's bed at night before bedtime so we know he would love to share a bed and offer many cuddles with his new family (once he is fully potty trained)!

Medically, Kirby is in great health!  He has been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, nares widened, palate shortened, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, nares widened, palate shortened, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!

Kirby would do great in any type of home since he is a champ at going up and down the stairs!  Since he does love to explore the yard and continues to have stranger danger, a house with a completely closed fenced yard will be preferred for him (as opposed to a multiple floor apartment style dwelling).  If an office is not open to the public, we think he would love to go to work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office.  He loves car rides, travels well, and is great with known people.  If his people are not able to take him to work with them, no problem at all - he's completely happy sleeping the day away as long as he has a warm soft blanket, a safe chew toy, a furry friend and his people can arrange for a mid-day potty break for him! Kirby is a little snuggle bug (with is people and his furry friends)  looking for a home that can dote on him, can be included in most (really all) family activities, can offer him daily structured walks to work on his stranger danger, tons of exercise/enrichment and lots of love and attention. He is just the sweetest, eager to please, ball of energy you can find!  Kirby is quite the dream dog as long as you are looking for a playful pup (that needs a playful companion) that is willing to dedicate time to help him overcome his stranger danger.  Kirby would be a great addition to a loving family that has the time, patience and energy for a young dog.

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Kirby, please submit an adoption application for him today.
