Hawkeye was surrendered to SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him placed in a loving pet home to be spoiled and live out his life as a cherished pet.
Hawkeye is an adorably derpy, calm, laidback, loving, kind and most gentle English Bulldog you can meet. Although he can be timid and unsure around loud noises, Hawkeye still desires to be loved on, petted and being the center of everyone’s attention! He can be such a social butterfly when meeting new people. Hawkeye will go up to anyone and everyone sniffing them to make sure he approves! His curious nature places him looking at the window pretty much all day every day. Hawkeye knows all the goings on of the neighborhood and quickly coined himself the official watchdog of his street. Hawkeye is a typical Bulldog as he is extremely lazy, requesting to be on the floor napping at all times with his human nearby so he can lay his precious head in their lap. He is quite the snuggler and not picky at all as to who he will cuddle up next to; so be prepared to have this hunk glued to your side. Hawkeye is a velcro Bulldog thriving most when he is around those he loves and those that offer him many treats (he is very food motivated) and most importantly the attention he is seeking. When he isn’t following his humans around, you can find Hawkeye staring out the window soaking in scenery or requesting time outside. Hawkeye loves his time in the backyard most often refusing to come back indoors. He wanders the yard in the cool grass or will just sit there soaking up the sunshine eventually resulting in his humans carrying him back inside. Hawkeye is slowly learning to acclimate to new surroundings and it is important to remember that he is dealing with a big transition and as such will need a patient and understanding family that can continually offer him reassurance around loud noises (he will often retreat to a quiet place to chill). He currently lives with several furry foster siblings. Given his laid back personality, he gets along with them all great; cats too! We feel Hawkeye would do wonderful in a home with a furry companion or equally as well in a home as an only pet. He relishes the attention from all humans (big and small) and we feel he would do best in a home with children 6 years or older that are calm, gentle and dog savvy. He should always be supervised when he is around children to make sure he and they are kept safe.
Hawkeye is currently working on potty training. His foster family happily reports with a strict schedule and a signal for potty he will have it mastered in no time! Patience, persistence and consistency is a MUST in order for his continued success. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able and willing to continue working on potty training. Hawkeye is not crate trained and prefers not to ever be in his crate. He shows signs of anxiety and much prefers a soft, plush dog bed by a window when his foster family happens to be away from the home and at night. Hawkeye does NOT have accidents if he is able to sleep in his favorite spot by the window and is trusted in an open space. Given Hawkeye prefers to be around his humans at all times and is an outstanding cuddler, we feel he would love to share a bed with his adoptive family if they are willing to carry him up to bed and carry him back down.
Medically, Hawkeye seems to be in good health. He was treated for a cherry eye, furuncles and had several hairs from his eyelids removed. His eyes as well as his feet will need to be closely monitored going forward. He has been neutered, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!
Hawkeye would do best in a home with a fenced yard and in a home that offered very few stairs as he is scared of staircases with multiple stairs. Although Hawkeye is not a runner, a home with a fenced in yard is preferred as he truly wants to be outside as much as possible and explore his surroundings. He would do best with a stay at home or a work from home parent as he really enjoys the company of his people. Being at home is not an option- that is okay! He would love to go to the office with his adoptive family as he is very mellow, sweet, loves attention from all people as long as there is a window he can stare out of. Hawkeye is an extremely easy going Bulldog with so much love to give! He is searching for a family with many members to adorn him with attention and pets, one that has the passion for the outdoors just like him and one that doesn’t expect too much activity from him. Hawkeye is in need of a little patience and would be a lovable loyal addition to any family!
If you are interested in Hawkeye and think he would be a perfect companion, please submit an adoption application for him today!
NOTE: Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3-4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application. We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. :-) Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another. We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not. :-)
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don't feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue. :-)
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog's foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter can not keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
