Hattie came into SNAFU Rescue after being purchased at a commercial breeder dog auction.
Hattie is a happy girl outside in the yard but life inside of a pet home was pretty scary for her initially. She was very unsure of everything initially and would cower in her kennel and pancake down when we went to pet her. In just the first week of being in a home, she has already started to show progress. While she does want and greatly enjoys human attention, she is still learning to trust and come out of her shell. She will sometimes still run from her foster family when they go to pick her up and while Hattie seems to get along well with every human she meets, she needs them to take it slow with her so that she can learn to trust. This will be something any prospective adoptive family will need to be able and willing to continue working with her on. She will need time to gain more confidence and we are sure that with time that she will, as she has already made so much progress in such a short time. Loud, fast moving children would likely be scary for her, so calm, gentle children in the home will be a requirement. While she has only been in foster care for a short while, she seems to do well with the other dogs in her current foster home!
Hattie is currently still working on potty training. While she has been doing well with going potty outside, a regular, consistent schedule will help with her continued potty training in her new home. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with her. She has also done great with crate training and sleeps quietly in her kennel during the night or when her foster family happens to leave the home. For her safety, we recommend that she keep a similar crating schedule when her humans are away from the home and/or she is left unsupervised so she is safe and secure while no one is home. She does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of and how to be a pet.
Medically, Hattie seems to be in great health! She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/wormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian.
Hattie would do well in almost any type of home but since she is still working on potty training, and does not know how to potty on a leash. A house with a fenced yard will be preferred for her (opposed to a multiple floor apartment style dwelling with no yard). If a prospective home has kids, a home with quiet children will be preferred as she still gets scared easily. She is *not* fear aggressive AT ALL, she just freezes and pancakes down or runs away when she gets scared or nervous. We also think she'd love to go work with her new family if they wanted to take her with them to the office as long as it was a quiet, calm environment. She is a quiet girl, and loves to just hang out near her people and bounce around the yard outside with the other dogs! If her people are not able to take her to work with them, no problem - she's completely happy sleeping the day away in her kennel!
