Update March 2015!

Gemma has been adopted in Nebraska!!

She is now known as Chou Chou and is currently an only doggie in her forever home.  While she may not always be an only doggie, she is currently loving being the only furchild in her home.  She has not been super excited to share her parents love and affection with other doggies (esp dogs that are bigger than her), BUT with the right match, we think she will adjust!  She has already been adjusting to the idea that, maybe, just MAYBE she will allow her parents to bring in another little frenchie in the form of a foster sister.  BUT only if she approves, of course! ;-)  Her new parents have lots of time and energy to spend working with her on socialization and training and have already started obedience and socialization classes with her with a local trainer!  We are so happy for her and are so thankful she's found her perfect family!!

Congratulations to Gemma (Chou Chou) and her family!! <3

Gemma came into SNAFU Rescue after being surrendered to us by her breeder.  She was ready to retire her, so did the responsible thing and contacted us to find her a loving pet home to live out the rest of her life.  Gemma was already semi house trained when she came to us and is a very social, loving little gal!

Gemma is super loving and seems to love every human she has ever met. She has not been around kids in her foster home much but seems to love everyone she meets so we do not think she will have any issue with children if they happen to be present in her adoptive home. We think she’d do best in a household with dog saavy kids (4 years old and up) who would love on her and play with her!  She also does well with her foster dog siblings in her home and seems to get along with them.  If one of the other dogs tries to boss her, she will stand up for herself, but does not usually instigate.  She also corrects very easily with verbal correction.  She will do best with other dogs who are easy going and submissive.  She just kind of likes to do her own thing and hang out with her humans.  She loves to follow her people around and snoopervise.  :-)    When her people are busy, she is happy to entertain herself with a nylabone or deer antler on the couch.

She is currently house trained and potty trained as long as she is kept on a regular schedule. She does not mess in her crate at all and gladly goes in to sleep when her foster family is away from the home/at work or at night time.  We think she'd adjust easily to sleeping in bed with her people, if they wanted her to!  Since she does well in her crate, we recommend that she keep a similar crating schedule when her humans are away from the home so she is safe and secure while no one is home.

Medically, Gemma seems to be in tip top shape! She has some cataract in her left eye but that does not seem to bother her and her vision does not seem to be affected. She has no other known health issues.  She has been spayed since arriving with the rescue, tested negative for Heartworm and is UTD on all of her vaccinations/wormings.

Gemma would do well in almost any type of home. She goes up and down stairs like a champ, so stairs are no issue for her. We also think she'd do fine if her new family wanted to take her with them to the office.  If not, she's completely happy sleeping the day away in her kennel!
