If you are looking to adopt from SNAFU Rescue, please read this first!
For those looking to potentially adopt a dog from our rescue: Please keep an eye out on our website and Facebook page for new arrivals. Upon arrival, we typically don't know much about each dog other than any information provided in our Facebook posts. One of the reasons for having a dog in foster care is to determine, personality, likes, dislikes, needs and assess them medically. This can take a few weeks to a couple of months depending on each dog's need set. Once each dog is ready to find their forever home, they will move to the available page of our website and we will typically make an announcement on Facebook as well. After the dog has moved to the available page and has a "Now Accepting Applications" banner, we will begin accepting adoption applications for that dog. We want potential adopters to be fully aware of all of the needs of that specific dog in addition to their personality which is why we have a detailed write up about each dog on their individual pages. Every dog listed on our Foster Dogs page will eventually go available for adoption. We do not have the time to personally contact anyone when dogs go available. If there is a dog you are interested in please just make a point of visiting the Available Dogs page on our website at least once or twice a week. We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until a minimum of 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog.
We do not accept adoption applications for any dog before the dog is posted on the available page.
We typically receive a lot of adoption applications for each dog when they become available. To help yourself stand out in the adoption application, please reference the specific dog you are interested in, along with any needs or behaviors that have been referenced in their bio. Please also give as much detail as to why your home would be the best fit for that particular dog. Also, feel free to include pictures with your adoption application! It helps the foster families get a feel for you, your family and the home their foster dog would be potentially be adopted to. Once applications are reviewed for each individual dog, we will conduct phone interviews with a handful of the selected top choice applicants. As much as we would like to contact every applicant via phone to get a better feel for them and discuss the dog, it is just not possible. Please keep in mind we are all volunteers who work full time jobs and have families of our own, so this process may take a while.
All of our foster dogs' locations are on our website, please click the Available Dogs and Foster Dogs tabs above to see each dog's specific location. We are based mainly out of the Omaha, NE/Council Bluffs, IA area but do have fosters in other states within the Midwest depending on foster home availability.
We do adopt nationwide and to Canada, as long as adopters are willing to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person. We do not ship any of our dogs.
If an adopter can not keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
