Chubbs came into SNAFU Rescue after being purchased at a commercial breeder dog auction.
Chubbs got his name b/c he is well, a chubby boy! He is a big, stocky boy weighing in at a whopping 38lbs. He has been slimming down some with daily exercise and play but he does have a larger bone structure, as well. Despite his size, Chubbs is a big teddy bear. He is a huge sweetheart and loves human affection and hanging out with his people. He seems to get along well with everyone he meets and does well, most of the time, with the other dogs in his foster home. Chubbs is still learning to share his new found love and attention and will need a home with other submissive dogs who will not challenge him. He is a big boy and knows how to throw his weight around with other dogs, should he find a situation in which something isn't quite going his way. While he corrects easily, a home with other submissive dogs will be best for him as he does seem to enjoy the company of other dogs. So far, he has enjoyed running, playing and discovering toys, beds and all of the comforts of being a loved pet in his current foster home. While he does not live with children, we think he would be fine with respectful, gentle children in his new home, should they happen to have kiddos.
Chubbs' foster family reports that he is potty trained as long as he is kept on a consistent schedule. He has also done great with crate training and he sleeps quietly in his kennel during the night or when his foster family happens to leave the home. As with all of our foster dogs, for their safety, we recommend that they keep a similar crating schedule when their humans are away from the home and/or they are left unsupervised so they are safe and secure while no one is home. While he is very well behaved and is learning quickly, Chubbs does not know danger and does not know the dangers of the household like a dog who grew up in a loving home from the beginning of their lives.
Medically, Chubbs seems to be in great health! He has no known health issues and has been neutered, had a complete dental and is UTD on all of his vaccinations/wormings.
Chubbs would do well in almost any type of home but a home with a fenced yard will be preferred for him as he is not familiar with leash training and does not know how to potty on a leash at this time. He is also still learning stairs, and has practiced with a few that lead outside to the backyard in his current foster home. He is not familiar with flights of strairs, so that would be an area where he would need patience and practice should any potential adopters have a multi level home. We also think he'd love to go work with his new family if they wanted to take him with them to the office, as long as the office was pet friendly. If not, he's completely happy sleeping the day away in his kennel!
